The mystery box is fun, but they don't include the regular newsletter with recipe ideas that they have during the regular season. So sometimes there is a little more legwork involved. For example, this week, I have no idea what to do with Daikon. None. Going to be searching that out next, or perhaps pawning it off on a friend who would appreciate the gift. I have done that before with greens that seemed overwhelming (Collards and an Italian variety)....

Nice! Sneaking the veggies in, love that it works with your kids. Kale chips have been revolutionary for us, they are even being packed as snacks for school. And I think there is a certain amount of bragging that goes one when one shows her kale chips to her friends on the playground :-)

With the winter share we've done the past few years they would only let us know the week of delivery what was in it. I love the idea of a mystery box! As you know when you are driving your family diet by a CSA the food leads and the recipes follow anyway. In the winter in Colorado getting 'new food' (not our of the freezer, pantry or root cellar, is always exciting!

Sounds yummy (minus the pasta, whole wheat buns and rice)! Kale chips are a new favorite thing in my house. Roasted veggies of almost any kind are another favorite. I find the kids are more acceptable of any veggie when it's roasted or thrown into a smoothie. I had L taste her first green smoothie today. She didn't even ask what was in it, but pronounced that it was good. Unbeknownst to her, she had a full serving or two of spinach. :)

In my case, it is to try to involve my kids in the cooking process. That makes a good bonding moment.

I had not been to DC since I was a teenager, and I agree, it is a great town. Offers so much to see and do, and many of the locales are within walking distance. Even the day we went to Arlington Cemetery was great - a short drive, easy parking and a nice outing. Of course, this was in early January, not sure what the whole place would be like in the heat of the summer!

Washington DC is such an approachable city, it almost feels more like a town to me. There is something for everyone, the museums are free, lots to walk and see. We lived right outside of DC for a few years and I loved it! Would take stroller walks through the Smithsonian. And I loved the National Cathedral most of all; so European. Loved reliving it through your family trip 'share'; thank you! Best of everything to you and your family in 2012~

Sandy, they were tasty! Next year I am going to find a recipe for dark chocolate snowballs, just using cocoa powder instead of hot chocolate mix. I think they need more chocolate :-)
