Between Fifth Crow Farms seasons, I like to purchase the Mariquita Farms occasional Mystery Boxes. These boxes are delivered every two weeks and contain a collection of seasonal produce. This week our box contained Broccoli, New Potatoes, Chives, Cucumbers, Avocados, Cocktail Onions, Little Gem Lettuces, Fava Beans, Wild Arugula, Carrots, Parsley and Red Cabbage.
Here is my menu plan for the week of May 22:
Sunday: Keema Chole (Indian dish with ground lamb, chickpeas and spinach)
Monday: Meatloaf, sweet potato fries, roasted asparagus
Tuesday: Grilled boneless pork chops, shredded red cabbage and carrot salad, grilled asparagus, rice
Wednesday: Hamburgers, leftover red cabbage salad, steamed broccoli
Thursday: Sports banquet – out for dinner
Friday: Pizza night!
Next weekend, I plan to roast a big pork leg that has been in the freezer, to help clear things out in preparation for the purchase of my next half pig from Linda’s Tasty Pork. I will serve Sam Beall’s Carrot Souffle alongside, along with the New Potatoes, steamed and rolled in butter. Arugula and Little Gem Lettuce salad will round out that dinner!
