Family Dinner Plan: Japanese Pickling Melon

Japanese Pickling Melons were our mystery item in this week’s box from Mariquita Farms, and because of these melons, I now find I had the perfect opportunity to pick up a new kitchen gadget when we were in Japan in March, a Japanese Pickle Press! Fortunately, looks like Amazon will come to the rescue.

Our box also contained Baby Carrots, Kohlrabi, Portuguese Kale, Red Leaf Lettuce, Mizuna, Potatoes and Dill. On Friday night, I made a Chicken Stew with Kohlrabi and Carrots, and last night put together a jar of quick Kohlrabi pickles. Wish the weather was warmer this week, it would be great to have mixed salads with all the greens.

Here is my menu plan for the week of May 26 (subject to change!)

Sunday: BBQ with friends – I am bringing a kohlrabi salad, Lemon Cake from Frog Hollow, and fava bean crostini

Monday: Portuguese Kale and Potato Soup, French Silk Pie

Tuesday: Taco Tuesday (means Taco Salad for me!) and a pot of Rancho Gordo Beans

Wednesday: Salmon with mustard dill sauce, roasted potatoes, salad

Thursday: Freezer Mystery Dinner

Friday: TGIF Block Party!

What is on your menu plan this week? And who else is excited that school is almost out?!!
