Family Dinner Plan: Meat, meat and more meat

The last few weeks have been all about the meat while we explore the paleo diet concept through Whole30. Week 1 was challenging, I think I was having carb withdrawal. Week 2 was better, it is not so hard to find good food to eat and I survived another party with just water as a beverage. I am looking forward to week 3 with increased energy and more experimentation with recipes that omit grains, dairy, legumes, sugar and processed food. Guess I won’t be watching Semi-Homemade anytime soon!

And if you are interested in the project with Get Real, celebrating chickens in the month of September, then please visit my Pros and Cons of Backyard Chickens. I would be interested in hearing your stories and experiences with raising your own backyard flock.

Our box from Mariquita Farms had Romanesco Cauliflower (photo above), Celery, Tomatoes, Yellow Onions, Sweet Red Peppers, Cilantro, Red Beets and Cherry Tomatoes. I supplemented the box with a trip to the farmer’s market this morning with Purple Cauliflower, Red Onions, Bok Choy, Japanese Sweet Potatoes, Orach, Smoked and Fresh Salmon, and a Cucumber.

Here is my menu plan for the week of September 23, using local, organic, sustainable food when possible:

Sunday: Roasted salmon, roasted cauliflower with anchovy sauce, green beans, salad with tomatoes (will roast the beets tonight too, since the oven is on)

Monday: Sausages from Markegard Family Grass-Fed, braised red cabbage, sweet potato fries, salad

Tuesday: Bottom round roast from Markegard and lamb sirloin roast from Sierra Farms, beet salad, sliced tomatoes, steamed bok choy

Wednesday: Soccer night and dinner out!

ThursdaySlow Cooker Chicken Wraps, lettuce cups, guacamole and homemade salsa

Friday: Takeout and Trashy TV – this has been our first one as a family in a couple weeks, as the adults have been traveling or out to dinner. Will be interesting what we come up, may have to go with takeout for the kids and leftovers at home for the adults.

What is on your menu plan this week?
