Menu Plan Monday: Are those the holidays sneaking up?

Collard Greens
Collard Greens

For the past week, it seems as though things are sneaking up quite quickly. And by things, I mean the holidays. Gosh, they seem to be looming large this year. And I have a couple of projects that need to be tackled before then, plus I just picked up a new gig, writing for the Mint blog. Check out my first article, Paris on a Budget, posted last week.

One of the bigger projects in the next few weeks is our annual Book Fair at school, which I help plan. And then there is another blog conference, Foodbuzz. Oh, and the kids are out of school early for a whole week. And then we have Thanksgiving. Happens just. like. that.

We found Tomatoes, Scallions, Collard Greens, Sugar Pie Pumpkin, Strawberries, Red Jalapeno Peppers, Red Butter Lettuce, Fennel and Broccoli in our Two Small Farms box this week. Only 5 more weeks of our CSA for this season, I also better think about planting my winter garden. Gack, another task to do.

Here is my menu plan for the week of October 18:

Sunday: Braised Lamb Shanks with Tomatoes and White Beans, steamed broccoli, salad

Monday: Leftovers

Tuesday: Beans and Greens, with Collard Greens, cornbread, salad

Wednesday: Chili (made by Kitchen Kid), served with garlic bread and carrot sticks

Thursday: One-Pot Penne with Turkey-Feta Meatballs, salad with fennel and red onion

Friday: Movie night and ?

What is on your menu plan this week? BTW, you will notice I have no plan for the Red Jalapenos. Any suggestions?

I’m just starting to think in terms of meal plann for this week. Usually I have it figured out well in advance but nope!

I like your chili Idea, i think I will steal it, if you don’t mind…

Today we’re having rice and beans and chicken. Tomorrow we’re probably having rice and beans and something else. The Brazilian in me leaves little room for change :)

    Have a great week.

Absolutely, steal away. Chili is a great fall dish, and almost works better if you make it ahead of time! Beans and rice, yum. Works for me anytime :-)

Have you ever made jalapeno jelly? I love it and it’s easy to make. The red jalepeno peppers will add some nice color to it.

I may have to steal the chili idea too… actually, I was thinking about that this weekend when the weather turned bleak and chilly but we had dinner plans both nights already.

I’m already working on Thanksgiving plans. Was going to ask if you wanted to join me on a jaunt to Santa Rosa to pick up a fresh Willie Bird when I called and found out they’re actually carried by Andronico’s now! We’ll have to find some other excursion excuse.

    Cheers!

would love your jalapeno jelly recipe, it is a great thing to have on hand for the holidays. Does yours use apples too?

Already working out Thanksgiving dinner? Ambitious. My cousin Julie is in charge of that bit, I just bring the pies and maybe a side and maybe appetizers. Brought the pickled salmon last year, it was a big hit!
