12 Days of Local Christmas: La Biscotteria, Redwood City

For the next 12 days, I am going to highlight some of my favorite local food purveyors in the San Francisco Bay Area. Some are new to me, some I have been visiting for years. And all have lovely gifts for the season and the locavore on your list.

At this point, I cannot remember who discovered this place first, Lisa or myself. In 2003, La Biscotteria opened their retail shop along El Camino in Redwood City, after operating a wholesale bakery in Belmont since 1989. After the opening in Redwood City, I have tried to stop in once a month or so to taste the latest creation. Founded by Bay Area native, Augustine Buonocore, La Biscotteria is truly a local treasure.

My favorites include raisin and chocolate hazelnut biscotti, plain and artichoke focaccia, and the cannoli. During Christmas, Angela, Augustine’s wife, partner and Chief Idea Generator, puts together lovely personalized gift baskets and will include their Panettone and Cuccidati Cookies, made specially this time of year.

La Biscotteria products can be found at their shop in Redwood City, ordered via their online store, and several local grocery stores.
