Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook from *mumblemumble* years ago was my first cookbook. I still use it.

Thats a great list. I still rely on my Purity cookbook, its older than old. But I love it, it has everything in it.

ah, Rachel Ray. I used to watch her show way back when she was just getting started. Nowadays, I look on her as a guilty pleasure - I will buy her magazine when I travel, or at the grocery store, and only watch her show occasionally. I am not sure why I have this response to her, maybe it has something to do with mass jealousy over her success in the kitchen?!

Alice Audrey, I still use my Mom’s Betty Crocker Cookbook from 1957 (or there abouts). I love the older cookbooks, especially as they indicate so much about the social norms of the time.

Miranda, I have never heard of the Purity cookbook, so I looked it up - it is a Canadian Cookbook, and after reading the reviews, I might have to get one myself! Thanks for the introduction!

Qtpies, I started out with appetizer cookbooks, so fascinated by making cute little miniature things. That evolved into more adventurous cooking. Of course, I think one of the hardest things is making a birthday cake for my family!

A big old knife. Really. Nothing is better for stess relief than chopping up some nice crisp veggies.

Hi Kitchen Gadget Girl!! So nice to read your blog and the article in the MP Almanac!
Here are two of my favorite cookbooks: The first two Silver Palate cookbooks - still some great recipes all these years later. And anything by Dianne Worthington — her recipes are unfussy and relatively simple to prepare and always tasty.
My favorite kitchen gadget?? My parmesan cheese grater — the kind that kind of looks like a garlic press, only with a bigger “box” to hold the cheese, and a handle to rotate the grinding surface.

My sister swears by her Silver Palate cookbook - I think they came out with special 25th anniversary edition this year. I will have to look up Dianne Worthington, she is new to me.
And, you can never go wrong with a good cheese grater
